Bikes and trains should be a perfect combination – but the days of spacious luggage vans are long gone and cyclists have to struggle for space on increasingly-overcrowded trains which weren’t designed to take bikes. Despite that, there’s plenty going on, with cyclists working with train operators and local authorities to get improvements.
Northern Rail has a Cycle Users Forum which I set up some years back – 2005. It’s doing a great job and is a model for other train operators to follow.
